Economic Organizations

Adam Smith
The Cato Institute
Founded in 1977, the Cato Institute is a non-partisan, public policy research foundation that promotes limited government, free markets, individual liberty and peace. Its Cato Journal is must reading for anyone serious about economics.
MediaNomics
What the media really tell Americans about Free Enterprise. (Any guesses as to how many journalists have ever taken a college-level economics class?)
Acton Institute
The Acton Institute hopes to demonstrate the compatibility between religion, liberty, and a free-market economy. Religious leaders and entrepreneurs can build a relationship of common interest based on securing an open, free and virtuous society.
Advocates of Self Government
Fed up with left/right labels? Take the world's smallest political quiz and find out where you fall!
Citizens Against Government Waste
Don't let the budget surplus fool you. The government still wastes too many hard-earned taxpayer dollars. This group put the spotlight on pork-barrel spending. Founded in 1984, the CAGW has been dedicated to educating the American public about government waste, fraud and abuse.
The Foundation for Economic Education
No doubt my biases are showing because I attended Grove City College-- a school closely affiliated with FEE. But this is the oldest research organization dedicated to the preservation of individual freedom and private property. Its Ideas on Liberty is also on my "must reading" list.
free-market.net
Here, Chris Whitten has put together a list of links to free-market economic websites. Check out his entire site!!
Laissez Faire Books
Laissez Faire offers the world's largest selection of free market books and tapes. You won't find most of these books in a brick-and-mortar bookstore. (And I'll never admit how much I've spent here!)
Political Economy Research Center
PERC is an environmental think tank promoting market solutions to environmental problems. It pioneered the concept of free-market environmentalism.
The Reason Public Policy Institute
Another public policy think tank, but this one specializes in libertarian economics. Its Reason Magazine is must reading for anyone serious about free-market economics. A real gem!!
Tax Foundation
The Tax Foundation calculates Tax Freedom Day--the day you actually start working for yourself. This is a nonprofit, nonpartisan policy research organization that has monitored fiscal issues at the federal, state, and local levels since 1937.
